ARTIST RESIDENCY, OUDEBERG NATURE RESERVE, SOUTH AFRICA
In April 2018, UK artists, Anthony Garratt and Barry Cawston (www.barrycawston.com) travelled to a remote nature reserve in South Africa called 'Oudeberg' for an artistic residency.
Oudeberg Nature Reserve lies just 40km inland from South Africa's coastal garden route and in located on the border of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. The private reserve comprises Quaggasberg Lodge and 8000 acres of pristine wilderness. Oudeberg adjoins the 3000 square kilometre Baviaanskloof mega-reserve, a unique conservation area where 6 out of South Africa's 7 biomes are represented. As a prisitine natural environment, the reserve aims to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity patterns and critical ecological processes in the area. For instance, through environmental enterprise, it is on a mission to prevent the extinction of the Cape Leopard.
The Artist in Residence Programme is intended to help raise awareness and funds for its conservation mission and to partner with leading artists to produce profound works inspired by the local landscape and biodiversity.
There will be exhibitions of Anthony and Barrys work resulting from the residency in both South Africa and the UK. Please follow the link to the dedicated residency website to see more information.
